When we were setting up this site, one of things we wanted was a flash slide show plugin that we could use in WordPress to add images into easily for a “gallery” like effect. The first one we downloaded was Flash Fader – which I have to admit works great, and was up and running in less than 5 minutes. If you want to show an image slide show and configure it to be any size, this works great!

However, that’s ALL it does (show pictures). You can’t configure it to even add links where the pictures are clickable. After a little more googling, the best one we found was the featured content gallery WordPress plugin. It not only has the ability to assign links to the pictures, but you can add text (and HTML) to the images as well! You do have to use custom fields to get it to work, but that’s easy. You can even randomize what displays via categories, or specific post and page id’s. There is one other plugin we could have used, but it was a bit of overkill for this web site. If you need a flash slideshow + a fully integrated picture gallery solution in WordPress, try using Nextgen Gallery. We use it on several other sites, and it’s great too!
